Former boss Paul Sturrock announced at a Press conference this afternoon that he has politely declined chairman Ron Martin’s offer to manage the team at Wembley.
Paul explained the reasons behind the decision saying that in the interests of supporters, players and the Club he felt it would be better for new manager Phil Brown to take charge.
He said: “Whilst the offer from the chairman still stands, I have decided not to manage the team at Wembley in the interests of the Club.
“I spoke with the chairman this morning and his offer still stood, but for the benefit of the football club.
“I will still be going to the game at Wembley, but with the fantastic supporters of the football club who have been brilliant to me during my three years at Southend.
“We will have a few beers, enjoy the day, and hope the team can win against Crewe.”
