Councillor Sally Carr is supporting our trip to Wembley

We’re all rooting for the Blues!
The Worshipful the Mayor of Southend, Councillor Sally Carr, is flagging up support for Southend United as the club heads historically for Wembley on Sunday 7th April.
Councillor Carr said: “We are tremendously proud of our town team and want to wish them the absolute best of luck for their first ever Wembley Cup final!
“We can assure Southend United Football Club that the borough is rooting for them every step of the way for this exciting challenge against Crewe Alexandra.
“This is our chance to show the players as well as the rest of the country what our Club means to us and just how enthusiastic Blues supporters are.
“Southend people are experts at rallying round when they are needed and sharing in momentous occasions. Just think of the huge crowds that turned out for the Olympic Torch Relay last year.
“Now is the time for those who have not yet got their tickets for the big match to hurry up and do so. More than 20,000 tickets have already been sold, and the club aims to reach a terrific target of 30,000 to turn the event into a big Southend street party!
“We have been helping Southend United promote the match, through our network of schools, through Southend Youth Council, at bus stops, the Visitor Information Centre, through our business links and in many more ways too.
“This is a terrific opportunity for everyone to be part of a legendary moment in Southend’s story.”
Fans are reminded of the hashtag on Twitter of #paintwembleyblue to help create a real buzz about the big day.
Southend United Chief Executive Steve Kavanagh said: “Wembley is a day out for the fans and I want them to be part of getting 30,000 Blues to Wembley.
“We saw in the summer with the London Olympics that sport can bind a nation like nothing else – well this is our opportunity to do it on a local scale and create a feel good factor around the town of Southend.”
