Southend United Community & Educational Trust will be holding an open evening on 11th March 6-8.30pm.
The open evening, which will run in the Community Classroom (Next to the Shrimpers Bar), will showcase the Level One, Two and Three sports courses that are currently running ahead of new groups starting both now and in September, as well as the apprenticeship programme.
The Level 1 Certificate in Sport is a 12 week course that runs three days a week at Roots Hall with rolling starts, so students can start whenever they feel ready. It covers topics such as coaching, fitness and health as well as question and answer sessions with players and tickets to see Southend United play. As well as this students will also gain qualifications in Employability and a Functional Skill.
The BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Level 2) is a 9 week course which is based at Roots Hall 4 days a week. The course covers topics such as Practical Sport, Fitness Testing and Work Experience, plus gives learners the opportunity to develop their coaching skills in practical sessions with one of our expert coaches.
The FUTSAL academy (Level 3) is a two year course where learners will gain a BTEC National Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence), with the benefit of representing Southend United in a Futsal League, playing against teams such as Leyton Orient, Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace. As the course is split between theory and practical, learners will train twice a week at David Lloyd Health Club in Southend, before learning at Roots Hall, starting September 2013.
Should students wish to engage in vocational learning we also run a paid apprenticeship programme. The apprenticeships that are currently available are NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership, and NVQ Level 3 in Sports Development. Apprenticeships are year long programmes, where learners will complete their NVQ whilst also gaining the practical skills required for sports coaching with the expert team of coaches at Southend United Community and Educational Trust.
