Striker wants Blues to use the three points as fuel for three home games
Britt Assombalonga insists Blues must take the three points against Port Vale and use it as ‘fuel’ for the next three games, all at Roots Hall.
The striker scored to double Blues’ advantage in the first-half, and says this result can help the team to really kick-on against AFC Wimbledon, Torquay and Plymouth.
He said: “We need to use this as fuel to really push on now because we’ve got three important games coming up.
“We won at Wycombe and then didn’t use the win to give us momentum, but we’ve got to do that this time.
“The formation worked today, it seemed to give us the freedom to get it wide and play some good football.
“I am happy to play up there on my own, and even more pleased to have got another goal from open play.
“The whole team worked extremely hard, it’s a big pitch but we did well to deal with it and get the three points.
“Not many teams come here and win so it’s a very big result. We haven’t done as well at home but we’ve got a great chance now to put it right.
“We’re still confident we can reach the play-offs and this result is very important in terms of the rest of the season.”
Assombalonga was delighted to bag another goal, and admits he had wanted to take the penalty.
“Sean took the penalty, but I would have been happy to take it,” he added.
“I had missed a couple of chances early on but knew I would get a couple more chances.
“I was delighted to get another goal from open play. That’s 14 for the season now –hopefully there’s still more to come.
“It was a great win, and it was one for the both manager and Graham.”
An exclusive interview with Britt will be available on Blues Player.
