John White looking forward to a new challenge with Southend United after nine years at Colchester.
Defender John White can’t wait to get started with Southend United after signing a two-year deal earlier today.
White, who spent one month on loan with Blues back in 2009, has signed a permanent deal to become Phil Brown’s first signing as manager of Southend United.
And the defender, who ended a spell of nine years with Colchester United at the end of last season, is looking forward to the new challenge that awaits.
He said: “I knew in my head that at some point I would have to make the decision whether I wanted to stay with Colchester or whether I wanted a new challenge.
“I felt now was the right time to move on and I’m pleased that I’ve been able to join Southend.
“I had a really enjoyable time here when I was on loan with Matty Heath but unfortunately for football reasons that loan deal couldn’t be extended back then.
“It’s a new challenge for me, I’ve been with Colchester for a very long time, but I can’t wait to get stuck into pre-season, get to know the lads and hopefully impress the supporters throughout the season.
“I spoke with the manager and the assistant and the plans they have for the Club are exciting and I wanted to be a part of that.
“I don’t know many of the lads but I know Chris Barker from his time at Colchester, so I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone.
“I’m pleased that I’ve been able to get everything sorted quite early on in pre-season because it gives me more time to get to know my new team mates and the way the manager wants us to play.”
