Trust continue youth sponsorship

10 July 2013

Shrimpers Trust agree a one-year sponsorship deal with the youth team

Southend United are delighted to announce that the Shrimpers Trust will continue to sponsor the Club’s youth team.

The Trust’s sponsorship has helped to bring players such as Daniel Bentley, Mitchell Pinnock, Seedy Njie and Ryan Auger through into the current first team and goes a long way to ensuring the best possible education and training for Blues’ young talent.

The Shrimpers Trust began sponsoring the Club’s youth team shirts in January 2008 and it has continued ever since. Prior to that agreement they had made regular contributions to the Centre of Excellence for their European Tour programme and to help pay for players’ lodgings following Ricky Duncan’s arrival in 2005.

Ricky Duncan, Youth Team Manager, was delighted that the Trust had continued their support of his side for another year. He said: “It’s great news that the Shrimpers Trust have sponsored the youth department again for another year.

“I think everyone can see the benefits of having this sponsorship in terms of the equipment, coaching and development these young players are given.

“To have seen a number of lads be offered professional contracts this summer it just shows how important the sponsorship from the Shrimpers Trust is. It’s great to have the fan base investing in the future of their football club.”

Chief Executive Steve Kavanagh also thanked the Trust for their loyalty and continued support of one of the most vital parts of the Club. He said: “The support of the Trust is extremely important and I am delighted they have continued with this sponsorship.  I would like to say thank you to everyone who contributes to the Trust as without them this type of sponsorship wouldn’t be possible.”

Steve also explained why this type of sponsorship is so important, adding: “With the ever growing costs of running the Academy under the new EPPP regulations, financial support and assistance is vital to ensuring Southend continue to be a top class Academy.”

Paul FitzGerald, The Shrimpers Trust Chairman said: "Our support of the youth setup is something the Trust and it's members are particularly proud of and we are delighted once again to be able to make this donation which we hope will help bring more promising youngsters through the ranks."

Rob Craven, The Shrimpers Trust Press Officer added: “The continued backing for Southend United’s youth set-up by the Shrimpers Trust is a superb example of the football club and its supporters combining to promote a positive image within the football world. Blues’ fans can rightly feel proud not only about their role in assisting the potential stars of the future to make it to the top, particularly every time that one of our youth team products walks onto the field to play in a first-team match.”

Fans can also play their part in creating a lasting legacy for the youth department by signing up to our Blues Lottery. More information will be released today.
