Midfielder is looking forward to the pre-season friendlies getting underway on Saturday against Great Wakering Rovers
Ryan Leonard is looking forward to the pre-season friendly schedule getting underway on Saturday.
Leonard and his teammates will take on Great Wakering Rovers at 1pm at Burroughs Park.
By the time Saturday comes around, Blues will have been back training for two weeks, and Ryan believes it’s the perfect time to get the friendlies started.
He said: “We’ve been back in training, having double sessions, for a week and a half now but it’ll be two weeks by the time we have our first friendly.
“That’s about right because we’ve worked hard and now it’s time to get back into the action, get the new kit on and start playing matches.
“You always look forward to getting back out there after time off. The manager has said we’ll all be involved in some aspect.
“It’s a busy few days really as we then face Bishop’s Stortford and Braintree, it’s the ideal way to get your fitness back up.
“Obviously no-one is going to play 90 minutes in all three games but it’s a good way to start and go from there in terms of upping the training levels.”
Having topped the timesheets during Blues’ end-of-season testing, Leonard was pleased to come out on top again, along with left-back Anthony Straker.
He said: “It’s nice to have that in your locker, being able to get away quickly over 10, 20 and 30 metres.
“I think I came top in two of them and Strakes was top in one, we had a little bit of friendly competition going on while we were doing it.
“The testing at the start was an ideal measure because all the lads have been working on the training schedules we were given during our time off.
“Everyone is in good spirits at the moment. Obviously people have left but the group we’ve got here now is very close and we’re all pushing each other to make sure we’re ready for the new season.”
An interview with Ryan will be available on Blues Player.
