This summer's NCS project starts on Monday…and you can still be involved too!
NCS is active citizen project for 16-17 year olds (current school years 11 & 12). Its aims are to engage young people into positive activity and to build self confidence, whilst also having fun and meeting new people.
The project, which runs from Monday 15th July to Friday 9th August, is comprised of two residentials, each five days long, followed by planning and delivery of a social action project in the local community.
The first residential is from 15-19th July and is at Condover Hall, Shropshire. This week will consist of team building activities such Quad Biking, Zipwiring and Canoeing. This week is aimed at participants building self esteem, confidence and long-lasting friendships.
The second residential runs from 22-26th July and is on Mersea Island, Essex. This week is aimed at learning new skills which can be used when planning your project, or even in a career later in life. The week will involve learning about budgeting as well as a trip to Colchester Zoo to learn about running businesses and conservation.
Week three participants are based at Roots Hall Stadium in Southend, planning their social action projects to deliver in the local community. The projects are completely down to participants to plan and deliver. Participants will arrange in their groups what they want to do, how they can do it and what they are going to need.
Week 4 participants are out delivering their projects with their team, using the skills, knowledge and resources they have acquired over the previous 3 weeks. Last year, projects included renovating a youth centre, clearing an allotment for young people to use to grow healthy food, and a video which is used to promote NCS to other young people!
The cost of the project is just £50! As part of signing up as well, all participants will be given a free ticket to see Southend United vs. Queens Park Rangers on Friday 26th July (7.45pm Kick Off).
