Defender, who was Phil Brown's first signing, is the new Club captain
John White has been named the new Club captain at Southend United.
White was Phil Brown’s first signing as manager of Blues and he today confirmed White would be the man to lead Blues on the pitch next season.
Brown said: “John leads by example both on and off the pitch, he has a fantastic work rate and is a real professional.
“Without jinxing anything I hope he’ll be able to play in every game next year, there’s a real consistency to his performances.
“It’s also about putting my stamp on the team, and as John was my first signing, he seemed like a good option.
“I had five or six candidates to be honest but I’ve gone with John and I’m sure he’ll do an excellent job.”
John was understandably delighted to have been given the armband. He said: “I’m honoured to have been chosen by the manager to wear the armband, it was a fantastic feeling when he told me this morning.
“Hopefully I can lead the club in to a very good and successful season on the pitch.”
An interview with John will be on YouTube later.
