Freddy Eastwood was pleased to get 45 minutes under his belt against Great Wakering; and to grab the winning goal.
Freddy Eastwood says he is thoroughly enjoying the challenge of pre-season after netting the winning goal against Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday.
The striker missed last year’s pre-season training because of a knee injury, but he’s been involved from the start this time around.
And his manager Phil Brown was quick to note the fired up Freddy that returned to training two weeks ago. Freddy himself says he’s feeling much fitter now than he was all of last season.
He said: “I feel in much better shape now than I did really at any point last season. I worked hard during the close season and then the whole team has worked really hard since we came back in for pre-season.
“I’m feeling fit and fresh and I’m really looking forward to the season starting, we’ve got a few more weeks yet so it is a chance to improve my fitness even more.
“It was also good to get a goal today, as a striker all you want to do is score goals so it was nice to get the winner.”
Rovers were 2-0 ahead at half-time before Blues eventually won 3-2, and Freddy says he can’t remember an easy game against the Essex Senior League side.
He added: “Last season I think we won 3-2 as well and we were losing twice during the game so we always get a good challenge when we come here.
“Obviously that was our first game and we’ve had a tough week of training but it was good to get 45 minutes out there and it’s always nice to win the game.
“They made it really difficult for us so credit has to go to them for the way they played the game today.
“We’ve now all got 45 minutes under our belt so it’s a case of moving on to next week and the two games coming up in a short space of time.”
