Blues boss Brown hoping players will progress to next level this evening
Phil Brown is hoping his starting XI this evening against Chelmsford City can reach at least 75 minutes on the pitch.
Blues’ pre-season schedule will reach the halfway stage after tonight’s game and the manager will be asking if players to step up their minutes on the pitch.
Blues’ boss is also looking forward to coming up against good friend Dean Holdsworth at the Melbourne Stadium this evening.
Brown said: “Dean was my assistant manager at Derby County and he’s gone on to have a good career in management himself.
“He’s a good competitor and you can guarantee his side will be very competitive tonight when we play them.
“Our players are extremely fit. Anyone who was at Meet the Blues Day would’ve seen Marc Laird having a bit of fun with the fans, but it shows what standards we are trying to reach.
“This game takes us to the next level in terms of minutes on the pitch so the starting Xi will probably play a minimum of 75 minutes.
“If the heat is like it has been then we will probably make some changes but I’d like the players to be getting somewhere near 90 minutes of football before we head off to Madrid.”
Neither Barry Corr or Paul Smith trained in front of fans at Meet the Blues Day yesterday, but Ryan Leonard was back in for his second session since a slight injury.
The game at Melbourne Stadium kicks-off at 7:45pm. Entry for adults is £6 while concessions are £5.
