Bishop's Stortford 1-3 Southend United
Blues picked up their second pre-season friendly win as they beat Bishop’s Stortford 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Goals from Seedy Njie, a trialist Phil Brown did not wish to name, and Freddy Eastwood sealed the win, with former Blue Kyle Asante on target for the hosts.
Phil Brown welcomed back six trialists, including Cleveland Taylor, Kane Hemmings, Ben Coker and Jacob Erskine as well as a new one in the form of midfielder Martin Scott.
Four of the trialists lined up in the first half as well as new signing Will Atkinson who was making his first appearance in a Blues shirt.
Having fallen behind early on against Great Wakering on Saturday it was Blues’ turn to take the lead inside ten minutes.
A ball into the box wasn’t cleared and eventually fell to the feet of Njie who turned well and fired past the goalkeeper from six yards.
Njie, who didn’t feature on Saturday, then went close again ten minutes later. His curling effort went just over the bar though after a good pass from Taylor.
Njie’s strike partner and trialists Erskine then went close with a half-volley after a good ball from Atkinson, but goalkeeper Charlie Grainger made a smart stop.
The hosts, who had rarely threatened, then levelled in the 26th minute. After Ike Robertson had hit the post, Asante scored at the second attempt.
Atkinson was replaced by youngster Jack Edwards on the half-hour mark.
Just before the interval and Blues were back ahead. Njie did well to get to the byline and cut the ball back into the box where Blues’ left winger, a trialist Brown didn’t wish to be named, calmly slotted home from 12-yards.
Blues made 11 changes on the hour mark and nine minutes later it was 3-1 as Eastwood grabbed his second in as many games.
Eastwood went close again with a 20-yard strike but three was enough for Blues who will go again in 24 hours away at Braintree Town.
