Blues are heading back to Madrid

8 July 2013

Phil Brown's team will spend the 22nd to the 25th July out in sunny Spain for some warm-weather training

Southend United will be heading back to sunny Spain this July for a warm-weather training camp.

The tour will include a fixture against Real Madrid C, who Blues played on their visit to Spain last year.

The arrangement of the tour means the friendly with Dartford on July 23rd has had to be cancelled.

Blues will leave England from Gatwick on Monday 22nd July before returning on Thursday 25th July ahead of the game against QPR the following day.

Real Madrid C is the third team of the world famous side, who play in the fourth tier of Spain’s football pyramid. The side is part of the development system at the Bernabeu and features mainly second year professionals.

The game against Real Madrid C will be played on Wednesday July 24th, kick-off 10:30am.

Speaking about the trip, Phil Brown said: “I’m delighted that the tour has been arranged as it will be a good break for the players.

“We will work extremely hard and we’ll have a tough fixture against Real Madrid C.

“It’s going to be a very worthwhile trip and will hopefully have us ready for the start of the new season.”

The Club would like to apologise to fans for the late notice, but the tour has been slightly complicated to arrange and we didn’t want to announce until we were in a position where it was all confirmed.

More details about the trip will be announced in due course.
