Blues & BBC Essex agree two-year deal

18 July 2013

New two-year deal agreed with BBC Essex to coverage all home and away matches

Southend United are pleased to announce that we have agreed a new two-year deal with BBC Essex for radio broadcasting rights.
The two-year deal will see the BBC continue their coverage of all Blues matches home and away in all competitions.
The commentary is also fed onto the club’s official Blues Player channel for anyone unable to tune in to the BBC’s own commentary.
Blues’ Chief Executive Steve Kavanagh said: “The BBC’s coverage has been excellent in recent seasons and it was the same again last year.
“We’re pleased to have agreed this new two-year deal that will see them cover every game, home and away, for the next two seasons.”

BBC Essex’s Managing Editor Gerald Main said: “It’s great news for BBC Essex and for Blues fans. Home and away, wherever the match, whatever the day, we’ll be there. If you can’t get to the match it’s the next best thing.

“Behind the scenes I detect some real optimism so we’re delighted to be able to bring fans home and away coverage. We will be there every kick and every step of the way.”

BBC Essex’s Nick Alliker will be providing commentary of Blues’ two home friendlies against QPR and West Ham United, exclusively on Blues Player.

The first game of BBC Essex’s new deal will be the first game of the season, at home to Plymouth Argyle on 3rd August, kick-off 3pm.
