Ultimate Finish award for Kevan

7 January 2013

Stunning strike against Brentford voted best of the round

A spectacular strike from Blues' Kevan Hurst secured him the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Quarter-Finals Ultimate Finish award.

The 27-year-old winger’s goal in the 2-1 victory over Brentford secured 44 per cent of the public vote after football fans viewed an exclusive video of the five short-listed goals on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s official website.

The trend of memorable finishes from this season’s competition continued, leaving supporters with a tricky task to choose their favourite goal.

Hurst’s 22-yard strike which whistled into the top corner of the net gave the Shrimpers a 2-0 advantage over their npower League 1 opponents before Brentford grabbed a late consolation.

Fan Ed Birch, who voted for Hurst’s strike, was drawn at random to win an iPod Nano.

Speaking of his award-winning finish, Hurst said: “It’s fantastic that the goal has been selected by the fans as the winner of the Ultimate Finish award.

“The space opened up for me so the opportunity to have a shot was there and it was a great feeling to see the ball fly into the back of the net.

“It was an important goal and gave us a cushion. Now we are looking desperate to keep the run going all the way to Wembley for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final.”

Johnstone’s Paint Brand and Sponsorship Manager Ben Wilde, said: “Our congratulations go to Kevan Hurst for winning the latest Ultimate Finish award.

“Once again the standard of entry was very high and Kevan’s goal was representative of that.

“We’d like to thank everybody who took the time to watch the video and vote on our website.

“I’m sure everyone is looking forward to more high-quality goals in the Area Semi-Finals.”
