Stunning strike against Brentford voted best of the round
A spectacular strike from Blues' Kevan Hurst secured him the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Quarter-Finals Ultimate Finish award.
The 27-year-old winger’s goal in the 2-1 victory over Brentford secured 44 per cent of the public vote after football fans viewed an exclusive video of the five short-listed goals on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s official website.
The trend of memorable finishes from this season’s competition continued, leaving supporters with a tricky task to choose their favourite goal.
Hurst’s 22-yard strike which whistled into the top corner of the net gave the Shrimpers a 2-0 advantage over their npower League 1 opponents before Brentford grabbed a late consolation.
Fan Ed Birch, who voted for Hurst’s strike, was drawn at random to win an iPod Nano.
Speaking of his award-winning finish, Hurst said: “It’s fantastic that the goal has been selected by the fans as the winner of the Ultimate Finish award.
“The space opened up for me so the opportunity to have a shot was there and it was a great feeling to see the ball fly into the back of the net.
“It was an important goal and gave us a cushion. Now we are looking desperate to keep the run going all the way to Wembley for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final.”
