Kevan Hurst confident he'll be ready for Saturday

Kevan Hurst is looking forward to visiting his hometown club this weekend when Blues take on Chesterfield in League 2.

Although not a Chesterfield fan, Kevan grew up in the area and will be watched by a number of his friends and family on Saturday it was the midfielder says is a hugely important game for Blues.

Having struggled in their last three League 2 games, Kevan insists the rest last weekend has given them time to re-group and get ready for Saturday.

“We had two disappointing results against Exeter and Brentford and the rest has meant we’re able to get back on the training ground and work hard,” Kevan said.

“I’m really looking forward to the game and hopefully we can get back to winning ways, it’s a big game for myself.

“I’ve got a lot of friends back at home who will be coming to the game, along with my family, so Southend will have a few more fans on Saturday.

“I’ve been back there a few times, and obviously had a spell with Chesterfield. It’s been pretty good to me when I’ve gone back so hopefully it will be again this weekend.”

And thankfully for Blues, Kevan is confident he will be fit and raring to go on Saturday despite a back injury he picked up in the 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

He added: “I trained on Wednesday and will be out there again today so I should be ready to go.

“My back is still a little bit stiff and isn’t 100% but the medical team have done a great job and I’m confident I’ll be playing.

“I wasn’t really sure how the injury game about but I took some painkillers at half-time hoping they would help and they didn’t.

“Selfishly the postponement wasn’t too bad for myself because it’s given me a bit more time to get 100% fit.”

An interview with Kevan will be on Blues Player shortly.
