Cresswell: An excellent three points

26 January 2013

Defender delighted with the win away at Chesterfield

Ryan Cresswell’s beaming smile as he came out to warm down told you all you needed to know about Blues’ hard-fought 1-0 win at Chesterfield.

Gavin Tomlin’s 83rd minute strike sealed a 1-0 win and ensured Blues got back to winning ways in League 2.

Ryan was understandably delighted, and while he admits the performance may not have been enjoyable for the fans, the result certainly is.

He said: “I don’t think it was a great performance, it certainly wasn’t one the fans could really enjoy, but I think we all enjoyed the goal and the win.

“It was a really tough game against a good side who have been on a very good run of form at home.

“Coming here, there’s no doubt we wanted to win but we would have taken a draw here so to get the win is absolutely brilliant.”

Cresswell was also please to have kept a clean sheet following a run of six games without one. He added: “The clean sheet is important as well because it’s been a few games since our last one.

“All the lads worked so hard today. At times we weren’t playing very well but everyone kept working hard and we reaped the rewards.

“Mickey in front of us had a good first game and Smithy pulled off a couple of excellent saves that helped us to keep that clean sheet.”

Ryan also had a word for the 291 fans that made the trip to the Proact Stadium for the game.

The defender said: “They are probably the best fans I’ve played for during my career so far they are absolutely excellent every game, home and away.

“For so many of them to make the journey is brilliant and thankfully we were able to send them home with three points in the bag.

“The celebrations when Gav scored were quality.”

An interview with Ryan will be on Blues Player soon.
