Two volunteers needed to help two fans attend Blues' home games

Mencap is the voice of learning disability. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, their families and carers. The Mencap Supported Living Service is a service that support people with a moderate learning disability in Southend on Sea.  The purpose of this volunteer opportunity is to allow 2 fans to go to home matches and see their favourite team play.

Mencap needs  2 football supporter volunteers to escort 2 fans with a learning disability to the local football match on a Saturday afternoon (between 2 pm and 6 pm) when Southend United FC are playing at home.   The volunteers would be required to walk from the client’s home in Southend on Sea to the football ground (about 15 minutes walk), to sit with them during the match, support them to buy a drink in the interval and show them where the toilet is. Then after the match has finished, walk them home again. The 2 fans are very easy to support together and if the volunteers are looking forward to a good football match, this would make the event a fun and rewarding time!

The skills required include enthusiasm for football and Southend United, good communication skills, a good sense of humour, good listening skills, be supportive to the needs of learning disability and a desire to want to help two guys enjoy the match! An enhanced CRB will be required for this opportunity which Mencap will provide.

To apply for this opportunity contact the volunteer team on: email: volunteering@mencap.org.uk or tel: 0845 123 3000 and get an application form.
