Goalkeeper and defender make npower League 2 Team of the Week
A second clean sheet in a row meant two of Blues' players were nominated for the npower League 2 Team of the Week for their impressive displays against Oxford.
Goalkeeper Paul Smith made two excellent saves from Alfie Potter in the first half while Ryan Cresswell put in another terrific defensive display, along with the rest of the back four, to ensure Blues kept a clean sheet.
It was the second week in a row that Ryan has been in the Team of the Week, after he and Gavin Tomlin were nominated following the 1-0 win at Chesterfield.
Each week the Official Football League website will bring you the Team of the Week. Produced by the Press Association, the Teams of the Week features the eleven top performing players from each division from the weekend's matches.
Darren Purse and Lee Hughes were both on the scoresheet for Port Vale as they returned to the top of npower League 2 at the weekend, and the duo are in the Team of the Week.
The pair were both making their home debuts and managed to make an instant impression with front man Hughes bagging a brace, and defender Purse getting himself a rare goal, as the Valiants beat Accrington Stanley 3-0.
Elsewhere, Nahki Wells added another goal to his impressive tally this season with a free-kick against Fleetwood Town but he couldn't inspire the Bantams to a win as they drew 2-2 at Highbury. He did make the Team of the Week, though, alongside Hughes up front.
Rotherham United recorded a vital victory against fellow promotion-chasers Northampton Town and they have two players in the XI, in the shape of midfielders Ben Pringle and David Noble, who both scored for the Millers at the New York Stadium in their 3-0 win.
Completing the midfield is Bristol Rovers' John-Joe O'Toole and Chesterfield's James O'Shea. O'Toole, who is on loan from Colchester United, shone for the Gas in their Friday night win against Barnet, while O'Shea scored for the Spireites as they drew 1-1 away at Rochdale on Saturday.
Southend United beat Oxford United 1-0 and centre-back Ryan Cresswell and goalkeeper Paul Smith were both important in keeping a clean sheet, and they have been named in the squad for their efforts.
At right-back, meanwhile, is Aldershot Town's Ben Herd, who helped deny Exeter City from scoring in a 0-0 draw away from home, while Dagenham and Redbridge's Femi Ilesanmi is included at left-back after playing well in the Daggers' goalless draw at Home Park against Plymouth Argyle.
