Matthew Lund impressed with team spirit after making his debut
Matthew Lund has only been with Blues for a couple of days but he is already aware of just how good the team spirit is here at the Club.
Lund linked up with Blues for his first training session on Friday and made an immediate impression as he scored a debut goal that looked as though it had earned Blues a point until Kelvin Langmead scored a 90th minute winner for Northampton.
Matt though was impressed with the work-rate and desire shown in the second-half as Blues at times outplayed Northampton despite a man disadvantage.
He said: “The lads are really disappointed because I think we had done enough to get something from the game, the late goal was a real blow.
“We had to work really hard and we did exactly that. At times it looked like we were the team with the man advantage.
“The sending off meant we had to change things but in the second-half all the lads worked their socks off and we were really unlucky.
“I’ve only been here since Friday but already I can see that there is a real team spirit here at the Club and that can only be a good thing as we look to push for promotion and the play-off places.”
Matt himself was delighted to make his first senior start since early January, and was also pleased to get himself on the scoresheet, but he admits his goal means little after defeat.
He added: “It was great to be playing again because I haven’t played a competitive game since my last one for Bristol Rovers.
“I want to be out playing first-team football so when the opportunity came about to join Southend I was really keen.
“It was great to get the goal as well because it’s something I’ve wanted to improve in my game but obviously it’s disappointing as it didn’t earn us a point.
“I’ve got a couple more sessions to get to know the lads a bit better and hopefully I can be in action again for the big game on Wednesday.”
