Defender says Blues will go to Brisbane Road looking to win the game
Defender Ryan Cresswell has his eyes firmly set on a first appearance at Wembley, but he knows Blues face a huge task against Leyton Orient in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Southern Area Final if they are to reach the Final.
Cresswell, who has been to watch games on a number of occasions, says it is the dream of every kid to get to Wembley, but that Blues are fully focused on what he describes as ‘a big test’ against League 1 Orient.
With the away leg of the tie up first, Ryan says it’s important Blues are not out of it by the time the two sides meet at Roots Hall in two weeks’ time.
Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s clash at Brisbane Road, Cresswell said: “Everyone dreams about playing at Wembley and scoring the winning goal, we have spoken about it but the main focus is without doubt the two games against Orient.
“It’s going to be a big test but this squad of players has proved they can compete against League 1 sides and on our day we can beat them so we will go into the games confident.
“What’s most important is that we are not out of the tie by the time the game comes to Roots Hall. We want to win, but the tie can’t be won after the first leg – it can almost be lost though.
“I’ve been to Wembley a few times to watch England games and play-off finals but I would absolutely love to get there and actually play there. There is no need for any extra motivation ahead of this game.”
Ryan also says the players have already spoken about how much they are looking forward to having so many fans supporting them for the away leg. Over 1,600 tickets have been sold, and Ryan says the lads can’t wait for what he is expecting to be a brilliant atmosphere.
“We’ve spoken this morning and over the last few days about how good the atmosphere is going to be at the game,” he added.
“I said a week or so ago these are the best fans I’ve played for and we all know they will be out in force for the away game. We can’t wait to be playing in front of so many fans away from home and hopefully we can get a good result to bring back to Roots Hall.”
