Barry Corr's second vs. Oxford voted JPT goal of the round
Southend United’s grip on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s Ultimate Finish has been strengthened after a member of the Southern Area Finalist’s squad clinched the award for the second successive round.
Striker Barry Corr came out on top of the public vote after five goals were nominated for the Area Semi-Final prize.
Corr’s success comes hot on the heels of team-mate Kevan Hurst claiming the Area Quarter-Final award for his goal against Brentford.
The Blues set up an Area-Final clash with Leyton Orient after a penalty shoot-out victory over Oxford at the end of a pulsating 3-3 draw.
Corr scored twice in normal time, with his second effort – a sweet, first-time strike from 20 yards – being selected by the panel for nomination.
The goal certainly attracted the attention of supporters, with Corr’s effort earning 58 per cent of the vote on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy website.
Fan Terry Severn, who voted for Corr’s strike, was drawn at random as the winner of an iPod Nano.
Speaking of his award-winning finish, Corr said: “I’m delighted that my goal has been selected by supporters to win the latest Ultimate Finish award.
“We are all desperate to get to Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final so it was an important goal against Oxford and I’m delighted to follow Kevan in winning the award.”
Johnstone’s Paint Brand and Sponsorship Manager Ben Wilde, said: “The high quality goals just keep coming in this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy so congratulations to Barry for coming out on top.
“He showed great technique for the goal and is a worthy winner of the award.
“We’d like to thank everybody who took the time to watch the video and vote on our website.”
The other Ultimate Finish nominees for the Area Semi-Finals were Bradford City’s Kyel Reid, Sean Rigg of Oxford United and Crewe Alexandra duo Max Clayton and Chuks Aneke.
