Skipper insists 11 games will give Blues a good chance of automatic promotion
Skipper Chris Barker believes Blues need 11 wins from their remaining 17 games if they are to earn promotion to League 1.
Barker, who has plenty of experience both at the right end and wrong end of the table, says that 79 points should be enough to seal an automatic promotion place.
But the defender adds that if Blues do miss out on the automatic places, they are determined to make up for the play-off heartache last season.
With a long trip to Accrington this weekend, Chris is hopeful Blues can extend their unbeaten run to four matches – and another clean sheet would be nice too!
He said: “Having been in the game for a while I do like to keep an eye on the stats at look at everyone around us. We finished fourth with 83 points last season but this time around I think 79 will be enough.
“That means we need to win 11 more games from our remaining 17 and I’m confident we can do that. We’re coming into form with three big wins – we’ve not played that well in two of them – but we’ve got the result which is the most important thing.
“I think 79 points may well be enough but if we were to have to go through the play-offs I think the experience of last season will really drive us on.
“The ultimate aim this season is promotion to League 1. It’s fantastic that we’re so close to Wembley but we must remain focused in the league. Saturday against Accrington is a big game, and hopefully we can get another three points.
“We’ve picked up three clean sheets in the last three games which has been good, we’d like to keep that going on Saturday but it’s going to be a difficult test. We’ve had some bad experiences at Accrington so hopefully we can put that right on Saturday.”
