Exclusive interview with defender Ben Coker in tonight's matchday programme
Ben Coker is the cover star of our programme for tonight’s game against Rochdale.
The defender, who has been in excellent form this season since signing for the club in the summer, talks about his route into the Football League.
He also discusses how he worked three jobs when in non-league before getting his break at Colchester and how he didn’t give up when he had to go back into non-league last season.
Coker said: “I never thought that was the end of my professional career, because if you think like that, more often than not, that will be the end.
“I just worked really hard, kept my fitness up at Histon and then earned a trial at Southend.
“The manager was great and spoke to me after the game against Braintree and said he’d like to offer me a contract here.
“I got it sorted the day we played Chelmsford funnily enough, and it was a great feeling knowing I was back in the Football League.”
