Brown: We can progress in FA Cup

Brown confident Blues can beat Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium in the second round

Phil Brown is confident his side can beat Chesterfield in the FA Cup on Saturday and progress to the third round of the competition.

Blues beat Morecambe for the first time in their history in the first round of the competition with an excellent away performance.

And the gaffer is hoping for more of the same against Chesterfield to make up for the ‘tough to take’ defeat suffered at the Proact Stadium in League 2 earlier in the campaign.

He said: “That defeat was very tough to take and was one of the most disappointing so far this season in the fact we deserved something from the game.

“Paul Cook said afterwards he’d have been happy with a point on that day going into the final ten minutes, but they managed to get a winner.

“It was tough for the players because we’d been on a good run and we’d played some very good football on the day. We did deserve something on that occasion.

“We’ll go there on Saturday with belief. We want a good FA Cup run and we showed that in the last round when we went to Morecambe.

“We had never won against them and that was all the talk before the game but the players put in a terrific performance to put us into the second round.

“The FA Cup is a special competition and I’ve had some wonderful memories. For these players it’s all about getting into the third round and drawing a big club.

“That’s the prize at the end of this game – a place in the third round – but we know we will have to be at our best to come out on top.”
