Phil Brown on the FA Cup third round draw against Millwall FC of the Championship
Phil Brown says Blues’ FA Cup third round tie against Championship side Millwall at Roots Hall is a great draw.
Blues beat Chesterfield in round two on Saturday to set up the tie with Steve Lomas’ side on January 4th 2014.
And Brown says the game will be a good measure of how far his side have come under him in seven months.
He said: “I think it is a brilliant draw in many ways. It’s a home tie which is great and always puts you in with a chance.
“Then it’s a local derby if you like and there should be quite a big local interest in the game.
“For me it’s a test of how far we’ve come as a new group in seven or so months.
“They are in the Championship and are a good side, so it’ll be a real test to measure the squad and what we’ve done so far.
“We’ll be looking to put in a good performance to show what we’re all about on the day.”
Before then though, Blues have five League 2 fixtures to contend with, and Brown says the focus must be on them.
“We’ve got five games in the league before that game against Millwall,” Brown added.
“The focus has to be on them and hopefully we can go into the FA Cup game with momentum.
“There’s a lot of hard work to be done between now and then, but if we can continue to play the way we’re playing, we’ll be full of confidence.
“We gave another Championship side in Yeovil a good game at the start of the season in another cup competition, and had a good pre-season game against QPR too.”
