Brown: Carry over positives from Friday

Phil Brown on Southend United's game against AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day

Southend United manager Phil Brown says Blues must take the positives from Friday night’s game with Rochdale into their two upcoming away games.

Blues face AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day and then Accrington Stanley three days later at the Crown Ground to bring the year to an end.

With the league still looking tight, and all teams taking points off of each other, Brown says it’s important to put in another two good performances.

He said: “Everyone in this league is taking points of off one another and it’s very tight, but I think the top ten or so will start to pull away.

“Of course, there’s only seven places up for grabs and only three automatic places.

“That was our aim at the start of the season, so we know the pressures that come with it and hopefully we will deal with it.

“AFC Wimbledon are a good side, they will try to play good football, I know their manager very well.

“But for us it’s a good challenge and we’ll need to take the positives from Friday’s game into the fixture.

“Preparations are going well, Luke Prosser was the only one to pick up a knock so we will see how it goes, there’s still time.”

Brown wants to end the year on a high before clubs reassess their squads in January.

He added: “We have two games left between now and the end of the year and we want to put in two good performances.

“It’s important we’re in good shape going into January. Clubs will be looking to improve and make adjustments and we’ll be no different.”
