Will Atkinson on Southend United's game away to AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day
Will Atkinson says Blues are perhaps suited to playing away from home, and will be going to AFC Wimbledon for all three points.
Atkinson believes Blues’ resilience defensively and ability to break quickly on the counter has helped them put in some great performances on the road.
And the midfielder is hopeful for more of the same when they travel to AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day.
Atkinson said: “We’re very hard to break down and haven’t conceded too many goals. We’re also good on the counter.
“I think it’s just something we’ve been good at and some of the performances away from home have been great.
“We maybe need to add a few more goals to our game, home and away, Every player needs to be chipping in.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a must win game, we’ve already shown that we can beat anyone in this division but we want to get back to winning ways.
“AFC Wimbledon have had mixed form so far this season, they started very well but have slipped away in recent weeks slightly.
“Hopefully we can go there and take full advantage and pick up an important three points over what is an crucial stage of the season.”
That crucial stage sees Blues play four games in ten days, three in the league and one in the FA Cup against Millwall.
Atkinson is looking forward to the busy schedule, and says that the ability among the squad, not just the starting line-up can be a big help.
He said: “Every player wants to be playing games and there’s no better time for that than at Christmas.
“We will have less training sessions and more recovery ones but everyone enjoys playing in games, that’s what we are here for.
“Whenever anyone has got suspended or injured so far this season, other lads have stepped in and done really well.
“That’s a big boost and if changes do need to be made over the next week or two, we know we’ve got the squad to cope with it.”
