Midfielder hopes to be back involved against Torquay United on Saturday but understands he may not
Will Atkinson accepts he may have to wait for his chance in the team again after missing Saturday’s 3-1 win at Chesterfield.
The midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the campaign in the 1-1 draw with Cheltenham, which meant he was unavailable for the FA Cup tie.
With Blues picking up an excellent win to progress to round three, Atkinson understands it’ll be up to the manager whether he changes a winning team.
He said: “It’s always hard to come back into the team when they are winning.
“Any manager will find it tough to change a winning team, but I’d love to be back in for the game at Torquay.
“Players have stepped in throughout the season when we’ve had injuries and suspensions and done a good job, making it difficult for the manager.
“It was very frustrating to miss the game through suspension, it’s one of those things in football but it doesn’t get any easier.”
Will was delighted that his team mates won the game, and says they all believe they can cause an upset in the next round after drawing Millwall at home.
He added: “I was following the game on Twitter and Sky Sports as the manager said to have the full weekend off so I didn’t go to the game.
“It was nice to be able to rest up because we’ve got a busy schedule coming up over December.
“It was great to see the lads get the win and put us in the next round. We’d have like a bigger club in round three.
“But I’m sure Roots Hall will be packed for Millwall and we will all believe we can cause an upset. It’ll be a good challenge against Championship opposition.”
Focusing back on the league, Atkinson expects Blues to face a difficult test at Torquay on Saturday, despite them sitting bottom of the league.
“The manager emphasised in training on Tuesday that it’s going to be a tough game despite their position,” Atkinson added.
“They are at the bottom but these are the games where we have to turn up, start the game well and go from there.
‘There aren’t any easy games in the league, it’s a long journey down there, but we’re going with the intention of getting three points.”
