Midfielder says Northampton test will show how far Blues have come
Will Atkinson says Saturday’s game against Northampton Town will provide the ideal test to find out how far Blues have come.
Northampton lost out in the play-off final last season, to Atkinson’s Bradford City, and are expected to be challenging for promotion again this season
The 24-year-old believes Saturday’s game will be a good opportunity to show what Blues can do against a play-off rival.
He said: “Northampton are always there or thereabouts come the end of the season and I’m sure they will be up there this time around.
“That’s where we want to be too come May so Saturday will be an excellent test for us.
“We’re confident we can win the game and put another marker down to the other teams in the league.
“It’s been a good start and three points against Northampton on Saturday would be great.
“The first home game of the season was excellent. There was a really good atmosphere at Roots Hall and we will need that again on Saturday.”
Atkinson is also hoping Northampton leave Roots Hall with more bad memories of the midfield. He added: “I’ve got very good memories of coming up against Northampton and they’ve probably got bad memories of me so hopefully that’ll be the case again come 5pm on Saturday.”
A full, exclusive interview, with Will will be in Saturday’s official matchday programme, Blues.
