Midfielder says the team spirit and confidence in the camp is brilliant
Anthony Straker believes team spirit and confidence has been the main factor in Blues’ excellent start to the League 2 season.
Straker has typified Blues’ sense of confidence since the start of the campaign and that will have been further boosted by his first ever goal for the club against Northampton Town on Saturday.
The midfielder believes the team spirit is better than it was last season and insists Blues will be taking it game by game as they look to keep their winning run going.
He said: “I think we’re more together as a squad than we were last year, I’m not sure why but maybe something has changed slightly.
“We’re enjoying our football and we’re just hoping to keep it going. I think the spirit here is so good that even when thing do get hard we’ll get through them as a team.
“In football you have highs and lows but at the moment we’re all playing with confidence and that’s great to see.
“I’m enjoying the hard work and we’re getting an outcome. We want to keep this going, it’s been a great start to the season.”
Straker was delighted to grab his first goal for Blues, but doesn’t remember too much about scoring it. What he does remember however is that it came at an ideal time for Blues.
He said: “It was a good time because they’d gone down to ten men and we needed to get in front, but I don’t actually remember too much.
“Ball and net, that’s about it, but I was really pleased to finally get a goal after having one ruled out at Fleetwood last season.
“Hopefully I can get some more goals from midfield this season, I’ll take what I can get.
“I’ll have a few chances throughout the season from midfield but the most important aspect is winning games, then it doesn’t actually matter who gets the goals.”
