New signing on his aspirations for this season after signing a contract with Blues
New signing Craig Reid says he’s ready to fire Blues to promotion after signing a contract at Roots Hall this morning.
Reid joins after being released by Aldershot Town and after scoring 12 times for the Shots, who were relegated to the Conference, he’s out to double that figure and be at the right end of the table this time around.
The 27-year-old, speaking exclusively to the club’s official website said: “It’s great to be joining a club like Southend who have spent time playing in higher divisions. Hopefully I can play a big part in getting them back there.
“It’s a big club and with the aim to push for promotion it was too good an opportunity to turn down really.
“Towards the end of last season it was tough with Aldershot as we were fighting for our lives. Hopefully this season with Southend we will be fighting at the other end of the table.
“I want to put last season behind my and focus on the new challenge ahead of me at Roots Hall.”
Reid sees himself as a typical number nine and hopes to be Blues’ fox-in-the-box this season. He added: “I’m somebody that just likes scoring goals, a number nine.
“I like getting in the box and getting on the end of crosses and taking changes. Hopefully that happens this season and I can score double what I scored at Aldershot last season (12).
“I’ve not met any of the lads yet but I’ve come across them over the years. I’m really looking forward to the first training session today and then the game on Saturday against Plymouth Argyle.
“From the game last season at Aldershot I can remember that Southend were very organised and difficult to break down.
“I’ve been really impressed with the manager. He’s managed at the top level so it can only be a good thing having him at this club, I’m looking forward to working with him.”
An exclusive interview with Craig will be available on Blues Player and our official YouTube channel later today.
