Midfielder says Blues can beat Northampton with more of the same attitude on Saturday
Ryan Leonard says Blues’ work rate and commitment can help them make it three wins from three in League 2 on Saturday against Northampton Town at Roots Hall.
Leonard and Laird’s work rate in the centre of midfield has typified the commitment to the cause of the whole team so far this season and Lenny wants more of the same on Saturday.
He said: “I think last season we conceded five against them in the two games, I am pretty sure that won’t happen again this season if we keep up the same work rate and commitment we’ve had in the opening two games.
“Aidy Boothroyd has got his team playing the type of football that gets you results and success in this division and we’ve struggled against them in the past so I think we owe them one on Saturday.
“We’re all keen to press high up the pitch and be in the faces of the opposition. It seems to be working well and we’ve just got to make sure we keep that going.
“These are the games you look forward to because it’s a big test. They will be up there at the end of the season and hopefully we will be too.”
Lenny says he’s enjoying playing in the middle of midfield, a position he played when he was younger. He’s also delighted to have been involved from the start in both league games, despite tough competition.
He added: “I’ve been really pleased to have been picked by the manager and I’ll do whatever I can to keep my place in the side.
“I’m enjoying the midfield role. I played there when I was a kid so it’s not a new position for me. I think Lairdy and I have got a good understanding at the moment.
“There’s really good competition for places in midfield at the moment which is good as it’s keeping everyone on their toes.”
