Coker confident of Cup success

5 August 2013

Defender believes Blues have the quality to see off Championship side Yeovil at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.

Ben Coker believes Blues have the quality to beat Championship side Yeovil Town in the Capital One Cup first round on Tuesday night.

And the defender would love to enjoy a cup run with Blues this season, despite the extra fixtures it would create.

He said: “It’s going to be a tough game against Yeovil because they are a good side and are playing in the Championship this season.

“They did brilliantly last year to get into the Championship and they will have improved over the summer.

“I’m really looking forward to the game, you always enjoy going up against better opposition and testing yourself.

“There is a really good squad here now. The manager has brought in some real quality players and we’re confident we can win the game.

“I’ve not really got further than the third round in any cup competitions so I would love to have a run with Southend Untied.”

Having won on Saturday against Plymouth Argyle, Ben is hoping Blues can build on that performance against Yeovil.

“It was a brilliant start to the season and I think that will settle us all down. Hopefully we can now start to progress,” he said.

“I thought we were pretty comfortable even late on despite their long balls. We dealt with them well and it was great to get a clean sheet.

“The fans were brilliant and it’d be great if the atmosphere is like that again on Tuesday night because it gives the players that extra edge.

“That win has meant there is a really good atmosphere around the place following that win and we’re now looking ahead to the game against Yeovil with high spirits.”
