Will Atkinson says Blues are focused on bouncing back at Wycombe
Will Atkinson says Blues’ defeat to Chesterfield is already behind them – and he’s determined to help them get back to winning ways against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park this weekend.
The midfielder has played all of Blues’ games so far, and has gone close to finding the back of the net for the first time on a couple of occasions. He’d like to break his duck this weekend.
He said: “It was very disappointing to lose the game because it was so late on and we felt we’d done enough to deserve something from the game.
“You have to take the positives. There were a lot to take from Saturday. The two games we’ve lost this season have been close and we’ve given ourselves a lot to build on.
“We’re a young team and we’ll learn from defeats like that. It’ll stand us in good shape.
“That came is behind us now. We’ve spoken about Saturday and it’s behind us. The only focus now is on Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.
“I scored a goal for Bradford last season against them so it’d be nice to get another goal – especially as it would be my first for Southend.
“I’ve had a few chances but hopefully I can find the back of the net this weekend and help the team to a win.
“The best thing we can do is respond from Saturday’s defeat with another good performance and three points. We’ve worked hard in training and we’ll go into the game with the belief we can bounce back.”
