Brown: We must stand up to the test

22 August 2013

Phil Brown says Blues' winning mentality can help them to a win away at Chesterfield on Saturday

Phil Brown says Blues will need to stand up to yet another test when they face Chesterfield on Saturday.

Brown says his side have dealt with all the tests thrown at them so far this season, including Northampton’s physical approach last weekend.

He’s now hoping his side can deal with the expected footballing test that Paul Cook’s Chesterfield will pose this weekend.

He said: “Both teams are confident and both teams are undefeated so I’m expecting it will be a very good game of football.

“They had a tough game with Rochdale last weekend and Paul Cook probably was happy with a point hoping he could pick up three against Southend on Saturday.

“But we’re confident and we’re wanting to give a good account of ourselves to keep this excellent start to the season going.

“We’re buoyed by the three wins and three clean sheets we’ve picked up so far, it shows we’re doing something right in terms of hard work and quality.

“But we’ve got to keep that going. It’s early days and there’s a long way to go but we’ve got to make sure that winning mentality continues.”

Blues will train at Leicester on Friday afternoon, and Brown says it’s another chance for his players to be in a positive environment.

“Nigel (Pearson) has allowed us to use one of the pitches at Leicester which is fantastic,” said Brown.

“It helps us to prepare in the right way, just as we did against Hartlepool and we picked up an excellent three points there.

“Leicester is a good place and a good environment to go into so we’re delighted Nigel has allowed us to go there.”

Phil Brown on Marc Laird’s injury: “Marc did a lot of the unsung hero stuff and did a lot of hard work for the team so it’s really disappointing we’ve lost him to injury.

“He would work really hard to win the ball back. It might not sound important but it was. Not only did he win the ball back but he got us playing as well.

“But it gives a chance for someone else to step in and do that job alongside Lenny who has done really well this season.

“The mentality throughout the group is great, not just those that are starting but those that are on the bench at the moment.”
