Phil Brown delighted with the loan signing of Adam Thompson who can play anywhere across the back four.
Phil Brown says Adam Thompson will provide excellent competition across the back four after joining Blues on loan until January 4th 2014.
Thompson made his debut after signing on Friday when he came on for the final seven minutes in the 1-0 win against Hartlepool.
The 20-year-old came on in a defensive midfield role and his defensive versatility made him an excellent option according to the manager.
Brown said: “Adam really impressed in the game against West Ham when he came in on trial. I think what impressed me the most was the fact he got the call on the day and simply said ‘what time do I need to be there’.
“He came in a couple of hours before kick-off, met the lads for the first time, shook their hands and put in a very good display against West Ham.
“I said to him after the game I’ll work hard to try and get him to Southend but we had to wait for someone to leave and of course that happened on Friday.
“He came on to add a bit of height to the side late on as Hartlepool were really going for it and he did well.
“He can play right back, left back or centre back so he’s very versatile and will help provide competition in a number of positions. That’s exactly what we need here so I’m delighted we’ve been able to get him in.”
