Sean will make history if he makes his 59th appearance of the season on Saturday
Sean Clohessy says it will be a fantastic achievement for himself if he can set a new club record of 59 games played in one season for Blues.
Sean has been an ever-present since his arrival at Roots Hall and missed just one game last season following a red card against Bradford City.
This season though the defender is yet to miss a game heading into the final match of the campaign against Morecambe at Roots Hall on Saturday.
Sean said: “I wasn’t aware that it would become a record if I was to play on Saturday but it’s always a nice achievement to hold a record.
“It’s been a long season but to be honest with you I still feel fresh and think I could carry on and play more games this season.
“Last season I only missed one game after the sending off against Bradford and I was a little bit disappointed not to make it to 100 consecutive games – I think I was on 96.
“I’m just happy to have played this number of games this season and hopefully I will be involved on Saturday to mean I’ve played in every league and cup game this season.”
Sean admits that while there is nothing to play for, Blues want to finish a disappointing league season with three points.
He said: “Wembley was of course a massive highlight and a big positive but the bread and butter is the league and it hasn’t been good enough.
“Wembley isn’t to blame for that because as players we only focus on the next game. The big problem was those three games at home where we didn’t win any of them.
“We’ve not been good enough over the course of the season but it’s important we go out there on Saturday and look to win the game and end the season on a high.”
Sean was also delighted to be named Shrimpers Trust Player of the Season. He said: “It’s nice for people to recognise you’re playing well and keeping up a consistent level.
“It’d be nice if I can win the Club Player of the Year as well as I just missed out last season.”
