Midfielder says Blues must not worry about the teams around them and just pick up as many points as possible
Marc Laird says Blues must ‘concentrate on themselves’ rather than worrying about whether the teams above are dropping points in the race for a play-off place.
Rotherham and Exeter, the two teams in sixth and seventh, both lost, meaning that a win on Wednesday would move Blues to within three points of the play-off places with four games left to play.
And while Marc acknowledges other teams are stuttering, he says Blues can only focus on their own performances and ensuring they do everything they can to put even more pressure on other teams.
He said: “We’ve just got to concentrate on our own results at the moment. We’ve not been doing as well as we’d like but other teams around have also dropped points.
“There’s still a chance we can get into the play-offs but we must just look out our own performances and results. If we can win the remaining five games then we might well be in the play-offs.
“It’s going to be a tough ask, we’ve got some difficult games coming up starting against Rochdale on Wednesday who had a really good result against Fleetwood Town at the weekend.
“We want to bounce back after Sunday because the lads are obviously disappointed. Three points against Rochdale would move us to within three points of Exeter with four games to play so it’s still all to play for from our view.”
Marc is also hoping to find the back of the net for the first time since he scored in the 3-1 win against Rochdale at Roots Hall back on the 24th November.
“It would be nice to get a goal if I’m selected,” he added. “I’ve not scored since we played them last time so I’m desperate to get a goal at some point.
“Hopefully I will be in the team on Wednesday, it’s been a bit frustrating but you’ve just got to work as hard as you can to get your place back in the team.”
