Striker looks back on his loan spell with Blues
Britt Assombalonga described his year on loan at Southend United as a ‘great experience’.
The young striker came off the bench for his final appearance for the Club on Saturday in the disappointing 1-0 defeat to Morecambe.
And the on-loan Watford man was gutted Blues couldn’t end his loan spell with a win.
He said: “It was disappointing because we wanted to win the final game of the season but credit must go to Morecambe because I thought they were good defensively.
“It was frustrating being on the bench and seeing the lads have some good chances but when I came on I realised how tough it was because of the way Morecambe had set up.
“It was a real shame I couldn’t help end my loan spell with a win, but it has been a great experience this season and I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Southend United.
“Everyone at the Club have been fantastic, the two managers I have worked with have been great, the players have been brilliant and so have the fans – they’ve been really nice to me throughout my loan spell.”
Britt has scored 16 goals this season, and he admits he never expected to have done so well in his first year of professional football.
He added: “I sort of set myself a first target of ten and thought I’d probably get six or seven but then once I got to ten I just thought we’ll just see how many I can get.
“It’s been a great year for me personally with the number of goals I’ve scored and the experience I’ve gained it’s just a shame we’ve not got into the play-offs and have fallen short.
“I’m sure the lads will come back next summer and can really push for promotion next season, the fans certainly deserve it.”
