Players and manager say thank you to fans for their support at Wembley
Blues boss Phil Brown and his players paid tribute to the 31,000 plus supporters who made the trip to Wembley to back the Club in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final against Crewe.
Brown said: “Wow. The support was absolutely phenomenal and I can’t thank them enough. It just shows the size of this Club. We’re in League 2 for a reason but with the support of the fans there’s nothing stopping this Club from really pushing on.
“I’m disappointed we weren’t able to give them something to celebrate but I really can’t say anymore than thank you for the brilliant backing you gave the team.”
Defender Luke Prosser apologised to the fans. He said: “I’m just sorry to the fans that we didn’t get the win for them, or at least a goal.
“They were unbelievable throughout the game and we can’t thank them enough for their support here today. We just hope they enjoy the experience of a day out at Wembley and we’re just sorry to them for not giving them something to celebrate.”
Kevan Hurst added: “I’ve said throughout the season that these fans have been absolutely incredible to us. The support they’ve given the team this season, to myself, and all the lads has been great.
“I’m gutted. Especially for the fans because they deserved something today and unfortunately we couldn’t give them that.”
Gavin Tomlin was also grateful for the support. He said: “Even when we were 2-0 down they kept roaring us on and on a couple of occasions in the second-half almost helped sucked the ball into the net.
“It just wasn’t to be today, but the lads and I are grateful for their fantastic support here at Wembley.”
