Plymouth win is vital - Martin

27 September 2012

Winger David Martin believes Southend United will need to win at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday if they want to be promotion contenders this season.

Blues threw away a 2-0 lead away at Home Park last season to eventually draw 2-2.

But after returning to winning ways at home to Exeter City last weekend Martin wants to continue the new run against the Pilgrims.

“If we are serious about going up this year then we need to be winning these type of games,” Martin told the official website.

“We've been doing well recently and want to keep it going.”

Martin is also keen to play a part in that aim and would love to again find the back of the net at Home Park.

The winger scored in 2-2 draw there last season and is desperate to account his account for the current campaign.

“It would be great to get a goal but I'm not sure if I'm going to be playing,” said Martin.

“Hopefully I am and I can do well to improve my confidence.

“It's still not as high as it should be at the moment and like most wingers I'm a confidence player so it is something I need to work on.

“But it's only going to come back by me playing well so hopefully that can be tomorrow.”
