Gillingham preview

17 September 2012

Southend United will be looking to inflict Gillingham’s first league defeat of the season on Tuesday night.

The Gills, currently top of League Two, are yet to lose this season in league action.

The Blues meanwhile are aiming to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches following Saturday’s 3-1 success at Cheltenham Town.

Team News:

Gilingham have a fully fit squad to select from as they look to continue their unbeaten start in npower League Two.

Former Billericay Town ace Chris Whelpdale is pushing for a start after coming off the bench to score in the 4-0 win against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Ex- Gills striker Neil Harris is unavailable with a knee problem after missing Saturday’s trip to Cheltenham Town.

Freddy Eastwood (calf), Luke Prosser (calf) and Ryan Leonard (hamstring) are all doubts.

From the Dugout:

Paul Sturrock: “Gillingham have made a great start to the season. Martin Allen has obviously got them ticking as they haven’t lost in the league yet. We’re unbeaten in our last five and it’s important that we try to make that six.”

Martin Allen: “I’ve told the players in the changing room that they are going to have to play better. They have to pass it quicker and get it moving around the pitch on Tuesday when we play Southend because they are a good team and this is the sort of game where we have to put down a good performance.”
