Blues Academy Notes vs. Wycombe

1 September 2012

August is a busy month for myself and all involved in the youth department.

The start of the month was spent with a staff in-service weekend that involved a theory day on the Saturday and a practical day on the Sunday.

With plenty of ideas from last season which included 15 tours to various parts of Europe, we now have in line with the EPPP guidelines a very structured age and position specific technical programme which all coaches are now putting into action with their squads.

We have also met every player and parent prior to restarting through our player and parent induction evenings. On these evenings all families go home with a SUFC academy handbook and are informed of all of our policies and procedures via our head of education, sports science, physiotherapy, welfare and myself informing all about the games and training programme we have in place.

In the last few weeks we have played Arsenal and Norwich in every age group. Excellent games at fantastic training grounds where we competed very positively against two top Academies. Throughout the rest of the month we have a trial day, more games including an under 15 game against Spurs at their new training ground before starting the new EPPP games programme in September.

The future is bright in the 9s to 16s with lots of new ideas excellent coaches and most importantly some players with real potential to develop. Good luck to the first team players and staff in today’s game and for the season ahead.
