The lights went out on Southend United’s reserve side at Witham Town’s Spa Road last night.
Blues second-string match against the Ryman Division One North side was abandoned after 38 minutes due to floodlight failure.
Southend were leading 2-0 at the time thanks to strikes from trialist forward Emeka Onwubiko and under 18’s centre-back Louis Baucutt.
United took the lead after 2 minutes when former Concord Rangers and Billericay Town striker Onwubiko converted from eight yards out.
Baucutt then made it two with a header from Jack Paxman’s left-wing free-kick on 35 minutes before the floodlights failed in 4 minutes later.
One set of lights went out with a burning smell emanating at Spar Road before the referee called time on the match six minutes before half-time.
United included five trialists in their starting line-up Jonathan Tiffoney, Sean McAllister, Loic Lumbilla, Mika Onnubika and Derek Murray
