Spicer set for three game ban

2 October 2012

Midfielder John Spicer is set for a three game suspension following his red card against Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

Spicer was sent off by referee Keith Stroud for a two-footed challenge on former Blues striker Matt Paterson.

His 11th minute red card meant United were forced to play 79 minutes with just ten men before eventually losing 1-0 at Roots Hall.

And now the ex-Burnley player is set to miss the Blues next three matches against Barnet, Dagenham and Redbridge and Rotherham United.

“He had his back to me so I couldn’t see how high he raised his legs but you can’t make tackles like that in the modern game now,” said manager Paul Sturrock about the incident.

“He should have stayed up on his feet.”

Spicer joins Barry Corr on a three game ban with the Irishman having now served one game following Tuesday’s defeat.
