Clohessy's foundations for success

4 October 2012

Defender Sean Clohessy knows solid home foundations will be the key to a successful season.

Southend United have won three of their opening five league games at Roots Hall.

And ahead of winless Barnet’s visit on Saturday, Clohessy nothing but a home victory will be acceptable.

“I think last year we were better away from home but perhaps not as good at Roots Hall,” Clohessy told the official website.

“We know though that if you are picking up results away and are solid at home you will be there or thereabouts.

“We got things together at home towards the end of last season after giving away a lot of points by drawing games we should have won.

“That was one of the main reasons why we didn’t go up automatically as our away form was one of the best in the country.

“That’s something we have to improve upon this year but Barnet will be no pushovers as they are a strong side in their own right.

“Despite their league position they have some good players and they will get things right at some point.”
