Striker Britt Assombalonga is planning a party when he finally manages to score his first ever hattrick.
The Watford loanee scored another two goals in Southend United’s 3-0 win at Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.
And after having another ruled out for offside, as well as going close in the build-up to David Martin’s goal, the 19-year-old won’t have to wait long.
“You might as well call me braceman,” he joked with the official website.
“When I get a hattrick I am going to throw the biggest party ever.
“I’m getting close now although I am one goal away from double figures already so I am over the moon with that anyway as I am just a young boy.”
Assombalonga lead the line for Southend at the New York Stadium assisted by the efforts of David Martin and Gavin Tomlin.
He had a first half effort ruled out for offside as well as going close on a number of other occasions before Blues boss Sturrock eventually substituted him in the 87th minute.
“We played really well and held our shape,” he said.
“It was hard playing up front on my own but the midfield helped me out and we could have scored more.
“We got a lot of balls in the box and plenty of shots away but you can’t complain with about a 3-0 win.
“I thought David Martin and Gavin Tomlin were excellent in the way they got up and down to support me.
“The manager is only looking after me by taking me off.
“We were 3-0 up and he decided to give me a rest so I don’t mind as the game was won by then.”
