Sturrock: It was different class

24 November 2012

Blues boss delighted as his side make it three straight wins

Blues boss Paul Sturrock was full of praise for his side as they extended their unbeaten run thanks to a 3-1 win against play-off hopefuls Rochdale.

Having seen his side go close on a number of occasions and then fall behind early in the second half, Paul was delighted to see his side respond and go some way to addressing their recent home form.

Speaking after the game, he said: "We played a good team and they played very well. They've got some good attacking players and they play the right way.

"I was worried about the freshness wish us having played on Tuesday night but once again we got stronger as the game went on and it was different class.

"The fact I didn't a sub on shows you and to see the boys running as hard in the 90th minute as the 1st is absolutely fantastic.

"When we went 1-0 down you thought a normal result look like it might resume but to be fair they rolled their sleeves up and their work rate and everything was terrific.

"I was disappointed we didn't come in leading having hit the post and had a few good efforts saved. In the second half it was pretty even but as the game started to unfold we started to get on top and our counter attack worked."

Paul was also quick to praise the efforts of front pair Gavin Tomlin and Britt Assombalonga as well as the goalscorer of the third goal, Marc Laird.

"Gavin is in a true vein of form," Paul said. "His general play all season has been fantastic, even when he wasn't scoring.

"But since he has started putting the ball in the back of the net you can see what a class player he is. Britt works so hard and he just keeps churning the goals out.

"I was please Lairdy got one because he worked so hard. One minute he was in the box and clearing it off the line the next. It was a quality goal that he scored."

The win lifts Blues to fourth in League 2, but for Paul it's just important his side keep picking up three points each game.

"At the end of the day it's important to win as many points as possible. This is three wins in a row and whenever you can do that it does you a lot of good."
