Stambridge 0 Southend XI 5

16 July 2012

A Southend United XI side secured a 5-0 win against Stambridge United tonight in their latest pre-season friendly.

The Blues sent a mixture of trialists and under 18 players to face the Essex Olympian League outfit.

And goals from Rob Hyms, Shamir Mullings, Fope Coker, Jack Payne and an own goal were enough to seal a comfortable victory.

Southend took only two minutes to open their account through a free-kick from left-back Rob Hyms when his effort took a deflection off a Stambridge defender and past keeper Paul Horwood.

Soon after and it was 2-0 to the visitors when Horwood dropped Marlon Agyakwa's corner, allowing Shamir Mullings to tap in from close range.

After the half-time break Blues made six changes to their side and it was substitute Fope Coker who added their third with a cool finish from 14-yards after racing clear of the Stambridge back four.

Jack Payne then added a fourth after doing well to shrug off his marker before rounding Horwood in the Stambridge goal, with United's fifth of the evening coming via an own goal from the hosts full-back Ryan Saggers.

Southend: Bentley (Chambers 46), Woodyard, Banton, Tatham, Hyms (Edwards 46), Agyakwa (Coker 46), Folly (Payne 46), Fofana, Bridge (Njee 46), Tomney, Mullings (Paxman 46).
